• Dorve to the Smile Center orthodontist and got my teeth checked out to see if I needed braces and would qualify, and I did for free ones


• Hung out till 2:15 and rode over to AAMP and dropped off my moms things for girls group


• Biked to Caroline's and played with Izzy till 5


• Rode to the corner store to get ice cream for the girls and on the way got hit by a car, bought ice cream sandwiches and rode over to deliver them and hang out with the girls group

• Biked to Caroline's and watched Alex till 4:15 and at that time he had been crying for 45 minutes so I called Caroline and she came home

• Decorated the cupcakes with the jelly beans, took a pic, and entered it into the Jelly Belly Cupcake Challenge... Woohoo!!


• Worked on our fairy alley, an idea we got from a friend, at 3 Andrea came over and we continued working on the alley with Andrea's daughter Lucia

• Listened to a really good book on tape The Green Glass Sea

• Took the #10 bus to the #30 stop with Dean and my dad, when it arrived we took it to the Botanical Gardens


• Walked around with Ginger and all of the other Little Green Witches, looked at plants and identified their parts


• Studied the plants some more, talked with my classmates/friends, took photos, hung out in NATURE!


• Walked and talked with everyone till it was time to go, waited for the #30 bus, took it to the #10 bus stop but decided to walk home because it took too long to get there


• Had a very hot but pleasent walk home


• Finger knitted some scarves till Jennifer Elsner arrived, a woman I babysat for


• Talked and got to know her then we drove to her house, watched her son and we played Othello and War, a card game, read Bone stories till he went to bed

• Played outside with Otto and Dean


• Made fruit pockets with Otto, cleaned up, after lunch we made dinner


• Created a tomatoe sauce with Otto, made a salad and some fizzy limeade and put it all in the fridge for later


• Finger weaved 2 scarves and while I was doing that Dean hit his head on the stone and had to go to the ER


• Played capture the flag with Otto, Esme, Evelyn, and Felix till Krista came


• Watched Gilligan's Island with my siblings till dinner

Spring Break

Spring Break... A whole week in one post! 3-14-2011 Today I...

• Rode over to AAMP with Esme and my mom to set up for the Craft Camp


• Sat in a circle with 13 girls plus my mom, Ginger, and myself, played some name games to get to know each other.


• Hung out, helped alot of people with sewing their wallets.


• Ate lunch while watching everyone else perform their talents


• Took pics of the girls doing human pyramids then became part of it, at the bottom


• Taught them the slipknot and my mom showed them how to make their nature strings using the slip knot


• Finger knitted hair pieces and put them in peoples hair as decoration


• Helped out some more


• Cleaned up


• Rode home, and went for a walk with my mom and Esme

• Rode my bike over to Nicholas Dawson with everyone but my mom, cleaned up some trash while playing fairies with Esme and Dean


• Rode home then rode to the library to meet up with my mom, read some cartoons from the New Yorker, looked at some books and then saw Ramona and Kathie, helped Ramona find the Nancy Drew books, we each got one


• Went out to lunch with them and while we were eating I read Nancy Drew to Ramona.


• Got dropped off and sold 10 burlap wallets for my craft fair, my mom cut, my dad pinned and I sewed


• Hung out by the fire cooked hot dogs with Andrea's family and Lara's family, some more family friends


• Biked over to Kathie's and when I arrived I immediately started reading to Ramona again


• Watched Mamma Mia with her and Arlo, her brother, read some more to both of them and put them to bed


• Watched Spy Kids 2 till Kathie and my mom came home, went home with my mom, and went to bed

• Received a call from Ramona seeing if I wanted a ride to swimteam, texted back saying "YES!"


• Rushed as fast as I could to get ready, drove with Ramona, Kathie, Arlo, Finlay and Willa to the pool


• Played capture the flag with most of the swimteam, swam, and drove home with Kathie


• Had lunch, got dressed and rode over to Guerro's with my family to listen to Matt the Electrician play


• Walked down to Jo's listened to music, walked to Yard Dog and played with Evelyn, Sophie, Esme and Dean


• Rode my bike over to AAMP with my family and listened to music

• Drove to swimteam with my mom, she dropped me off then went to work

• Hung out with some people that had stopped by our house

• Walked down to Jo's, listened to music there for a couple of minutes, after we were finished we went back to Yard Dog stayed awhile then went back to find our friends, Barbara and Carrie


• Looked around but couldn't find them, we got a call from them and we went to San Jose and found them there, hung out and talked


• Rode home, watched Cheaper by the Dozen 2 with my siblings

• Set up for my craft fair, at around 10:15 my first customer came and he bought 20 dollars worth of items that I made


• Hung out, sold several things, at noon Lilah came and we just hung out and talked while helping customers


• I got some feathers in my hair and Lilah, Izzy, and Esme got some too as a trade for 2 pairs of earrings


• Talked, played on the slide, HUNG OUT! and made money


• Cleaned up at 3:30, then went up to Congress with Lilah, Izzy, Esme, Lynn, and Holland to listen to music


• Treated myself to a Caramel Italian soda with cream! SO YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


• Listened to some music then walked up to Big Top and bought some candy to share with Holland and Lilah


• Hung out with my friends some more and went home

That was an AWESOME, fun filled week!

• Rode my bike over to Leon's, my photography teacher, showed him my top 5 photos and we edited them together till they were fantastic!


• Took some photos on the tripod for the 1st time, that was awesome!

• Made some more earrings till Shannon dropped Minor off to play with Otto, Shannon and Minor are our family friends, she decided to stay and talk and I sold my 1st pair of earrings to her.

• Made a ton of earrings with Lilah, my friend, when we were finished we walked over to Big Top and bought a bunch of sour gummies to share.

Today I...

• Walked over to the library with my mom, at the library I worked on writing my manifesto, which I will put up when I am finished.
• Went home and got ready to go babysitting
• Rode my bike over to Suki's, the women I babysit for. And watched her son for a little while till we walked over to Big Stacy and swam and played ball.
• Carried the pool stuff back to their house when we were finished at the pool.
• Hung out for several more minutes with them then rode over to Big Stacy again to coach my mom and siblings.
• Didn't have much luck this time and I quit coaching them for the time being.
• Rode home by myself, at home I got ready to go swimming again but only this time with a real coach and swimming laps. I absolutely LOVE swim team!
• Got a ride home from Kathie when we were done.
• Made one haunted house with my sibs and some of our friends, after they left we had ALOT of fighting! And now I am very sad and mad inside, I HATE when my parents fight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It scares me and makes me wonder "what will happen next?"

A night that I will probably remember. Thats all.

• Took the number 10 bus to Red River and 32nd.
• Walked to the Seminary kitchen.
• Inside I washed my hands, put an apron on, and started taking the ends off of ALOT of green beans.
• Put them in a pan with some butter, salt, and water to steam them.
• Tossed them till they were finished cooking and cut things for the salad bar.
• Barbara took out a giant block of white cheddar and asked me to cut it for the cheese burgers that she was grilling, afterwards I cut some tomatoes for them as well.
• Ginger and I put out the lunch for Barbara to serve and we cleaned up the kitchen so we were ready to go when she was finished.
• Walked to the bus stop, when the number 10 bus came I got on and read till it was at my stop.
• From the bus stop I walked home, a little while after, Otto came home, than my dad came home carrying a sleeping Dean, my brother.
• I skyped with my cousin Lynn and her children Wesley and Adelaide.
• Arranged a ride to swim team with Matt, waited till he came, when he came we drove to Liz's to pick up Finlay and Willa.
• At Rollingwood, our pool, we ran 4 laps, and played wall ball.
• Swam a 200 skip, which is 200 swim, 200 kick, 200 IM, and 200 pull. A very fun but tiring warm up.
• My friend Erin's mom drove all of us home.
• When I got home we skyped with my grandma, my uncle Thaddeus, and my aunt Ave.
• Later on, after everyone else, the other kids, were in bed I had a nice chat with my cousin Maia on skype, in case you can't tell I love skype.
• Went to bed, read some more of my awesome book, The Book Thief.

Today I...

• Walked over to Lana's house, across the street, to babysit for her.
• I played outside with Sienna and Jaquin, her children.
• After that we walked over to my house to play in our yard, after some swinging and slide rides we went back to their house.
• Lana made them a snack than went for a run and we went outside to sit on the porch and enjoy the wonderful, warm sunshine.
• After I got relieved from the job I went home and got ready to go with mom and Dean to the paper store.
• Drove up north to the paper store, got the paper than enjoyed a ride together around town and back to our house.
• When we arrived home I got my ipod, book, and phone and sat outside in the sunshine.
• The kids came home from school and we are now getting ready to have park day at Little Stacy with some friends.

• Watched Dean for a while till my dad got back from his bird outing.
• Worked on finding the definitions of words that I did not understand from 5 books that I have read recently.
• Made tapioca pudding
• My mom came home and we had lunch together, hung out, kids came home from school.
• Got ready for swim team
• Looked up a few more definitions
• My mom drove me to swim team and dropped me off, I was the first one there so I waited till we started dry land
• Ran 4 laps, than played neukum, a somewhat fun game in the volley ball court
• Swam for an hour
• My dad picked me up and we drove home, had dinner and dessert. For dinner a very yummy pasta that my dad made, and for dessert the tapioca I made.
• Read a book to Dean and hung out.

That's all I did today. It was a calm, relaxing day and I enjoyed it a bit.

Today I...

• Worked on my homework from Leon, at 11 I walked over to his house for a lesson.
• We went to the Zilker Botanical Garden to take pictures, we took quite a few. I will put them on here when I figure it out.
• Than we went to go look at Leon's show at a studio.
• After we drove home and I packed my computer and camera up to walk home, I walked home.
• At home I had a slice of pizza and apples and peanut butter for lunch. It was very yummy!
• Hung out, finished my book The Red Shoes. Such a good book. All you readers should read it.
• Got papa's bike ready to ride to my babysitting gig.
• Rode the bike to Lara's house but she wasn't there so I just waited till they got there, when they arrived we went inside had a little pizza for dinner, than Lara left.
• We hung out and watched a couple of shows, than Chip came home.
• I rode my bike home, and watched Kung Fu with Otto, Esme, Dean, and my dad.

Today I...

• Walked over to the bus stop with my dad and Dean, waited for the bus, it came and I took it down town to the number four bus stop.
• Waited for the bus, it arrived and I took it to Ginger's kitchen.
• At Ginger's kitchen I was the first one there, we waited for everyone else to come, when they all arrived we went over our homework from the past 2 weeks.
• We all walked over to Cesar Chavez to wait for the number 17 bus. When it arrived we took it to Boggy Creek Farm.
• At Boggy Creek we all bought goats milk ice cream, sat down and ate the yummy, cold, sweet, creamy substance, and waited for Ananda to come, another student.
• Ananda arrived and we all walked around talking and meditating with the plants.
• Than we walked over to a group of fig trees, sat down and ate lunch. We also decided to gather plants to make a teenage girl tincture.
• So we gathered the plants that we needed, took the bus back to the kitchen, and at the kitchen we made Everything I Need tincture for girls.
• It was the end of our day so I walked over to the tortilla factory and bought corn tortillas, flour tortillas, and corn tortilla chips, than walked back to the bus stop, I called my mom just to have a little chat with her because shes in Florida. The bus arrived and I took it down town again for the number 1L bus.
• When it arrived I took it to congress avenue, got off, and walked home.
• At home I just hung out with Esme, Dean, and Otto outside.

• Did homework for Passionflower apprentices outside.
• I did that till 3 than Caroline a woman I babysit for picked me up and we went to Little Stacy park to play and hang out with the Suki and the little ones.

Today I...

• Last night I went to bed feeling so much better than I have been and this morning I woke up feeling so much worse. Uggg, that makes me so angry! I was going to go cook with Barbara.
• Made a Valentine for my mom and dad.
• All of us were just felt icky so we watched a movie
• Afterwards we went outside, I worked on my Little Green Witches homework for a while, than we had lunch.
• A little while later Barbara came over with some movies and lollipops for us, She asked Esme if she wanted some french fries and she said "yes." Barbara went to P. Terry's and got some than brought them back.
• I worked on my homework a little longer, around 3 Otto came home from school.
• After he finished his homework we all went outside to try playing off the ground tag but as soon as we began playing our stomachs started to hurt.
• I sat down and worked on a couple more pages of my homework
• We had grilled cheese, carrots, and crushed pine apple for dinner.
• Now we are all lounging around till bed time

A normal week... Hopefully

This week was not the best. It started last Saturday when my brother Otto woke up feeling sick, he was sick Sunday and Monday than on Tuesday Esme woke up sick then Wednesday I woke up sick. On Thursday morning Dean was very sick and in the evening my dad was on the edge of sickness. Friday all five of house were home sick watching movies. Saturday, early morning my mom left for Florida to go help my grandma who has to have heart surgery. This week has become a really stressful, sick filled week. So hopefully this week will we be a good one. I also went to the doctor on Monday to get some fluid sucked from my knee to take down the swelling. Ewwwww! That was painful! I can go back to swim team, and babysitting. HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel so much better and happier.

A letter of application to Ann Richards

Dear Ms. Goka,
My name is Lucy Anderson. After graduating from Zilker in 2009, my parents and I decided to try homeschooling for awhile. For 6th and 7th grade I have done many apprenticeships with people around Austin. Over the past 2 years I have studied child pschology, photography, writing, botany, ceramics, cooking and math.
Other than ceramics I would really like to continue my studies in all of these subjects. After reading your website there are several subjects that excite me; especially dancing and roller derby! I look forward to Ann Richards and being introduced to new things.
I have enjoyed homescooling very much, but after looking in at Ann Richards I am hoping to attend your amazing school. Many of my friends from 5th are there now and many more are hoping to attend this year. They all say it is wonderful.
This year I joined the swim team and 1 of my coaches has really inspired me in many ways. Coach Claire has really encouraged me to be a better swimmer, to have fun, and to enjoy the process. Claire is funny, talented, kind, happy, very fun to be with and smart. Her qualities are ones that I hope I have now and continue when I am older. I think Ann Richards will help me pursue that. Ann Richards seems like a very fun place to learn.
I am a student that loves to learn new things and help out the world. I do hope that the world will become a healthier, more peaceful, happier place, and I would like to be a part of making that happen. One of the ways I am helping out the world now is by watching children for families. I think it helps make the world happier and more peaceful by hanging out and being with the children which then lets the parents connect and enjoy each other. When a family is getting along, the peace will soon spread wide across the globe.
Helping keep the planet healthy is another goal of mine. I am very sensitive and protective natural world, preserving it, breathing clean air, and staying healthy myself. I try my hardest to help by walking, biking, and taking the bus. I also help by learning about and taking classes to help me really, truly understand the plants. I love and wish the world would become a greener place.
I am very excited about the possibility of studying at Ann Richards! I am a hard working person that has a very easy time connecting with the people around me. I know that Ann Richards will bring a lot to my life and I will bring a lot to Ann Richards.
